STATE OF WASHINGTON IS 25TH TO JOIN GOVERNORS' ETHANOL COALITION DES MOINES - Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack announced this week that Governor Gary Locke of Washington is joining the Governors' Ethanol Coalition. Vilsack is the chair of the Coalition, which works to promote ethanol market expansion across the globe. "Governor Locke and the State of Washington will be a valuable partner in the Governors' Ethanol Coalition," said Vilsack. "Their contribution means support for the ethanol industry now spans from coast to coast." According to information released from Governor Locke's office, two facilities in Washington are currently producing the renewable transportation fuel and several other companies in eastern Washington are considering construction of ethanol production facilities. "Ethanol production in Washington will help support West Coast markets," said Vilsack. "The use of ethanol has many positive attributes. The increased use of ethanol will help add value to the crops farmers grow, help provide for a cleaner environment, help reduce our reliance on foreign oil, and open up new markets for ethanol producers across the country." The Governors' Ethanol Coalition focuses on national legislative actions, research and development, and marketing of ethanol products. Twenty-five states, along with Canada, Mexico, Sweden and Brazil are represented by the Coalition. The next meeting of the Governors' Ethanol Coalition will occur Nov. 8-9 in Des Moines, where Washington will be welcomed into the organization. |
