Dear Ms. Lowery:
On behalf of the Governors’ Ethanol Coalition we would like to
congratulate General Motors for the recent introduction of your 2002 line
of E85 light-duty flexible fuel pickups. This announcement reinforces GM’s
leadership and commitment to the production of vehicles that operate on
clean, domestic, renewable fuels.
As you know, the Governors’ Ethanol Coalition has long been an advocate
of the use of E85 as a form of alternative transportation fuel and has
worked with all the automakers in the effort to promote the production and
purchase of flexible fuel vehicles. As important as these vehicles are, it
is no less important that E85 fuel be available to motorists who purchase
these vehicles. In this regard, the Governors’ Ethanol Coalition assisted
in the formation of the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition and continues
to serve on its Board of Directors.
During the past year, through the efforts of the National Ethanol
Vehicle Coalition and its members, we have been able to secure resources
to begin the first phase of a long-term program to build public E85
fueling sites to serve the thousands of E85 vehicles now on the road. This
effort and subsequent actions to promote, advocate, and establish public
E85 fueling sites will advance our nation’s energy independence and assist
in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Please extend our appreciation for your continued leadership in the
production of E85 vehicles to all the management, staff, and employees of
General Motors. We look forward to continuing to work with GM in our joint
efforts to encourage the use of E85.
Sincerely,
Mike Johanns Governor
of Nebraska and
Chairman, Governors’ Ethanol
Coalition
