St. Louis to Join Federal Reformulated Gasoline Program

Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan has submitted a request to the U.S. Environmental Protec tion Agency to opt the St. Louis area into the federal reformulated gasoline program. The Reformulated Gasoline Program requires the use of a minimum of 2.0 weight percent oxygen. The state program, which was developed in consultation with the Missouri Corn Growers Association, would impose a 2.7 weight percent oxygen requirement during the non-volatile organic compounds control season, September 15 through May 1. The higher oxygen standard is expected to encourage blenders to utilize ethanol during the winter months.
