International Activities

At the Coalition meeting held recently in Albuquerque, New Mexico, International Committee Chairman Jeff Knight reported that the District of Chetwynd, British Columbia, has requested membership in the Coalition. The request is under review. Currently, Brazil and Sweden comprise the international members of the Coalition.

Plans are underway for a summit in Mexico to discuss the role for ethanol as the country phases out leaded gasoline. The Mexican World Summit on Renewable Transportation Fuels is a joint venture between the Coalition and the National Association of State Energy Officials. The summit is tentatively scheduled for June 8-9 in Mexico City, Mexico. Representatives from the U.S., Brazil, Sweden and other countries will be invited to discuss ethanol's positive impact on rural development and the environment. Participants hope to achieve expanded markets for renewable transportation fuels such as ethanol.
