Coalition Expands International Alliance with Canada and Mexico

At the recent Governors' Ethanol Coalition meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, steps were taken to expand the Coalition's international cooperative efforts. Coalition Chair Governor Frank O'Bannon signed statements of intent with government representatives of Canada and Mexico in preparation for a February meeting in Guadalajara, Mexico.

"We are living in a global economy," O'Bannon said. "For ethanol to achieve lasting success, its promotion has to be a global effort."

In February, Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson, chair of the International Committee, is expected to sign official Memorandums of Understanding with provinces of Canada and 10 states in Mexico. The Memorandum is an international alliance agreement signaling the countries' willingness to work together to expand production of and markets for fuel ethanol. The signings will expand the Coalition's international alliances which currently include Brazil and Sweden.
