Dear Friends of Ethanol:

On behalf of the Governors' Ethanol Coalition, we would like to invite you to submit nominations for the First Annual Governors' Ethanol Coalition Award for Excellence in the Promotion and Development of Ethanol. We are seeking to recognize individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions and have demonstrated leadership in the promotion and adoption of ethanol as a domestic, renewable fuel.

Your participation in this awards program will help us to recognize the accomplishments of parties involved with developing ethanol. As a fuel, ethanol is capable of playing a key role in our nation's energy needs benefitting both the environment and the economy.

We appreciate your involvement with this program. Please find enclosed a copy of the guidelines and nomination form. Nominations must be received by August 29, 1997. The Governors' Ethanol Coalition
is seeking nominations for the 1997 Award for Excellence
in the Promotion and Development of Ethanol.


With the establishment of this program, the Coalition seeks to recognize businesses, industrial facilities, individuals, institutions, media, associations, schools and government organizations that have made outstanding contributions to and have demonstrated leadership in the promotion and accelerated use of ethanol as a transportation fuel.

Eligibility

This awards program is open internationally to businesses, industrial facilities, individuals, institutions, media, associations, schools and government organizations. To qualify, nominees must be in compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations.

Criteria to Address in Your Written Description
(as applicable to your program)


General Criteria
  1. Award Recommendation Executive Summary: Briefly describe the program: project title, what was done, how it was implemented, and how it benefitted ethanol development. The executive summary should be no longer than one page.
  2. Partnerships: Describe project partnerships among local and regional development organizations, private industry, industrial councils, universities, government, etc. These partnerships should provide expertise, leadership, and financial commitments to the advancement of ethanol fuels.
  3. Measurable Results: Specify the amount of ethanol used, energy savings, infrastructure development and/or vehicles purchased and number of people affected.
  4. Sustainability: Length of time the project has been operational.
  5. Transferability: Applicability to other programs or project.

Eligible Award Categories

Judging/Notification/Presentation of Awards

A review committee representing the Governors Ethanol Coalition's Executive Committee will evaluate nominations. Please note that the GEC may present one award overall, not necessarily one from each category. The Governors' Ethanol Coalition Award is competitive and recognizes only exemplary accomplishments. Award recipients will be notified October 1, 1997. The award ceremony will be held in Iowa, November 1997, at the Governors' Ethanol Coalition annual meeting.

How to Apply

Indicate your nomination on the attached form. Select the appropriate award category from those listed on the Nomination Form. If you are nominating more than one program, please submit separate nomination forms for each.

Complete the Nomination Form and executive summary and include no more than five (5) double spaced, type written pages. Be sure to address all criteria in your description. Supplemental materials such as newspaper articles, photographs, publications and videos are welcome.

Please describe the reason for the nomination, the accomplishments of the project, and the results of the ethanol activity.

Make ten (10) copies of your completed nomination form and written description. Mail all ten (10) sets (each set should include any supplemental material) to the Governors' Ethanol Coalition.

All nomination materials must be received on or before 5 p.m. C.D.S.T., Friday, August 29, 1997. Late materials will not be accepted.
