"The recognition of Mankato State University
today is the first step in recognizing a long list of noteworthy individuals
and organizations who have helped move ethanol along the commercialization
curve," said Governor Branstad. "Mankato State University was
selected to receive this award based on its long-term commitment to educate
students about the merits of ethanol as well as leverage this information
to the marketplace by working cooperatively with industry and government
to reduce barriers to using ethanol."
An award was also presented to Nebraska Governor Ben Nelson, who founded
the Coalition in 1991 and has twice served as its Chair. Governor Nelson
has helped the Coalition grow from nine to 21 member governors, including
representatives from Sweden and Brazil. "Ben Nelson has been an effective
leader in the efforts to retain and extend the ethanol and ETBE tax incentives
and has championed a role for ethanol in reformulated gasoline."
