Not All Ethanol Plants Are in the Midwest |

Most news articles about ethanol describe the fuel as being produced in the Midwestern
corn belt. That's not entirely true. Here are some facts about ethanol:
Not All Ethanol Comes From CornNearly every time the word "ethanol" appears in the media, the reporter explains that the fuel is produced from corn. While a substantial portion does come from a part of the corn kernel, a growing number of gallons are made from other vegetable, wood and grain sources. |
What is the Governors' Ethanol Coalition? The 21-member Governors' Ethanol Coalition was founded in 1991 by nine governors. Since that time, the membership has increased to 21, including Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Montana, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The Coalition's purpose is to increase the use of ethanol, decrease the nation's dependence on imported energy resources, improve the environment and stimulate the national economy. More information about the Coalition is available at its new website (http://www.ethanol- gec.org). The site contains information about the organization, its members, current and future activities, research studies including recent ones from the Midwestern Governors' Conference, United States Department of Energy, General Accounting Agency and others, as well as links to other sites. |
