American Lung Association of Minnesota
to Award E85 Purchasers

Minnesota

As part of a new Clean Air Choice fuel awareness program, the American Lung Association of Minnesota and Metro Commuter Services will award drivers of flexible fuel vehicles $15 for every 85 gallons of E85 they purchase. The fuel program runs through October 31, 2000.

The Twin Cities metro area is a national pilot market for E85 and flexible fuel vehicles, with project leaders hoping to have more than 50,000 flexible fuel vehicles in operation in the state by the end of the year. Local, state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Postal Service, the U.S. General Services Administration and the State of Minnesota, are using E85 powered vehicles.

"The public can significantly improve air quality by making clean air choices. If the public demands it, more clean fuels and vehicles will become available," said Gerald Orr, CEO of the American Lung Association of Minnesota. "The E85 alternative fuel initiative will help preserve our environment and advance smarter growth to build regional economic competitiveness," said Metropolitan Council Chair Ted Mondale. "Transportation options like these will enable employers to provide choices in commuting to their workforce."
