U.S. to Ship Ethanol to Brazil
Archer Daniels Midland has announced that it will send 20 million gallons of ethanol to Brazil to help alleviate anticipated shortages in Brazil's ethanol production. Heavy frost conditions and a prolonged drought have resulted in the shortage. According to a report by the Union of Sugar Agro-Industries of Sao Paulo State, the adverse weather is expected to produce a 20 percent reduction in the sugar cane crop, Brazil's feedstock for ethanol production. "This sale of ethanol to Brazil demonstrates our capability to produce and ship substantial quantities of the fuel over large distances," said Larry Cunningham of Archer Daniels Midland. "As new markets at home and abroad increase their demand for clean-burning ethanol, we are prepared to supply the growing need for this renewable fuel."
