Ethanol Production Continues
to Break Records
Growth in the U.S. ethanol industry over the past two years has resulted in record production levels, and has the industry on course to achieve an annual production record of 1.8 billion gallons in 2001. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the ethanol industry set a monthly production record in October of 121,000 barrels of ethanol per day, compared with the previous monthly production record of 116,000 barrels per day.
Meanwhile, expansions and new construction in the
industry continue the pattern of record growth. Today there are 57 ethanol
plants with a combined production capacity of more than 2 billion gallons
annually. In addition, 18 plants are under construction, and will add
nearly 470 million gallons of new capacity. The latest projects to
begin construction include five plants with projected annual volumes in
million gallons a year.
