The Nebraska
legislature considered two ethanol bills in the current session:

 Nebraska Governor Mike
Johanns
|
A tax refund for retailers who sold ethanol. Retailers would
get a refund of two cents a gallon on up to 15 percent of their sales if their
total fuel sales were at least 15 percent ethanol. The Revenue Committee
effectively killed this bill.
- More than half the members of the Legislature are
cosponsoring a bill, LR 1234, that would require ten percent of every gallon
of gasoline sold in the state to have renewable content beginning in 2001. In
March, Nebraska Governor Johanns called for passage of the legislation, "We
have a rare opportunity to maintain our clean air and water supplies, while
developing the state's ample supply of renewable resources." Currently, only
20 million gallons of the state's 250 million gallons of ethanol production is
used in the state. If this bill passes, it is estimated 60-80 million gallons
of ethanol would be needed. More information on this at: http://gov.nol.org/Johanns/News/march00/ethanol.htm
In January, the state began a new consumer awareness campaign to
spur use of ten percent ethanol blends. "This new look for ethanol-blended
gasoline is designed to make it easier for Nebraska drivers to identify the fuel
at gas stations across the state," Johanns said. More information on this at: http://gov.nol.org/Johanns/News/jan00/e10camp.htm
