The Iowa Corn Growers Association is working to address pricing inequities in the state regarding the sale of ethanol blends. In the state, ethanol-blended fuels typically cost fuel retailers 2-4 cents per gallon less than regular standard gasoline, but motorists are being charged the same amount at the pump or more for ethanol. "Most consumers are unaware of this injustice," said Ron Litterer, President of the Iowa Corn Growers Association. "But it's been going on for years and it will continue until people demand that petroleum retailers pass the savings on to the public."
Referring to the recent hike in fuel prices, Litterer said,
"Today, we are at the mercy of the petroleum industry and foreign oil, but it
doesn't have to be that way. Ethanol offers consumers energy independence and it
costs less."
