1997 Coalition Chairman Governor Branstad Lists
Initiatives
Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, and the 1997 Chairman of the
Governors' Ethanol Coalition outlined the organization's 1997 goals at the
group's meeting in Chicago in February. Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon will
serve as the Coalition's Vice Chair in 1997.
"Over the course of 1997,
the Coalition will work to expand ethanol-blended fuels as a consumer choice in
the Midwest and throughout the nation," Branstad said. "This means we will do
everything in our power to maintain the ethanol tax credit so that ethanol
receives equitable treatment in the marketplace."
Branstad wants the
Coalition to undertake a market research effort to determine ethanol's strengths
and weaknesses as perceived by the public.
"...more consumers will choose
ethanol-blended fuels as their fuel of choice," Branstad said.
A second initiative announced by the Governor is a national
media campaign designed to bring ethanol's superior benefits to the attention of
key national media representatives.
