California Governor
Gray Davis

Concerns regarding MTBE water contamination in California continue to intensify, prompting several state lawmakers to introduce bills that would either ban, phase-out or require labeling of MTBE. The California Environmental Protection Agency recently held public hearings on the Report on the Health and Environmental Assessment of MTBE prepared by the University of California-Davis. It is now up to Governor Gray Davis to determine what, if any, action should be taken with regard to MTBE's use in California's Cleaner Burning Gasoline program. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has urged the Governor to immediately ban MTBE, adopting Resolution No. 982051 in support of this action.
