Mexico and Canada recently joined Sweden and Brazil in
committing to work with the Governors' Ethanol Coalition on behalf of the U.S. to expand
the production and use of ethanol worldwide. The nations have all signed alliance
agreements pledging to share research and development, explore import/export joint
ventures and increase international public awareness of the benefits of ethanol fuels. Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson, Chair of the Coalition's International Committee, presided over the signing ceremony in Guadalajara, Mexico. "I pledge to work closely with our friends from South and North of our U.S. borders to assist with their efforts," said Thompson. "I pledge to assist these great governors and premiers in their efforts to develop a clean burning renewable fuel market in their respective states." The signing ceremony occurred during the First Biofuels International Congress, held February 1-2, 1999. Speakers addressed topics ranging from finance, production and fuel technology, to vehicle technology, marketing and infrastructure. |
