Two cities in Mexico have teamed up to increase production of fuel ethanol with a goal of reducing pollution in Mexico's most polluted cities. The cities of Jalisco and Mexico City are collaborating on a project to convert several beverage alcohol production facilities to fuel ethanol, utilizing sugar cane as the feedstock. By increasing the production of fuel ethanol, policy makers aim to reduce harmful automotive pollution in Mexico City and Guadalahara while relieving pressure from the sweetener market. Mexican officials are also working with the Coalition to increase ethanol utilization in Latin America.
