President's Greening Federal Fleet Announcement

On April 22nd, the 30th anniversary of Earth Day, President Clinton announced an Executive Order aimed at reducing petroleum consumption by the federal fleet. According to the Order, federal agencies operating fleets larger than 20 vehicles are to reduce petroleum use by 20 percent by the end of FY 2005. In addition, the agencies are instructed to fully comply with the alternative fuel vehicle requirements set forth in the Energy Policy Act of 1992. The Order encourages the use of alternative fuels, and bio-based fuels specifically.
