Record Production Expected in 2000

In anticipation of expanded demand and new markets for ethanol, the U.S. ethanol industry has been producing at record levels for the last several months and is well on the way to a year of record production. In April, the ethanol industry produced a record high 110,000 barrels per day, far surpassing the previous high of 108,000 barrels per day set in February. All indications suggest the industry will reach a new annual production record in 2000. High gasoline prices and low feedstock costs have contributed to the demand for ethanol as a low-cost fuel.
