A Cornell University Student works on an

at the Future Truck 2000 competition.

In June, E85 was one of the fuels competing in an event that brought engineering students from top 15 schools to create greener vehicles. Only five fuels were used in the GM Chevrolet Suburbans - diesel, 20 percent biodiesel (B20), reformulated gasoline, hydrogen and 85 percent ethanol. The students were challenged to design the super truck of the future.

A web-cast event during the competition allowed each team to describe its innovative technologies that was broadcast worldwide.

Teams from the University of Maryland and Cornell University opted to use E85 fuel for their vehicles. The Maryland University team won the Best-Off Road Performance category.

The competition was made possible by the contribution of material, technical and financial support from General Motors and the U.S. Department of Energy. The Coalition also provided support for the event.
