Ethanol Pilot Plant Funding to be Released

Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Carol Moseley-Braun (D-IL) announced the USDA will release funds for an ethanol pilot plant to be located at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Last year, Senator Durbin included $1.5 million in the USDA's spending bill, which the Agricultural Research Service has delayed releasing. The plant is intended to allow for the study of more efficient and economical production of ethanol from corn.

"I have been assured by Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman that funds for this important project will be released," said Durbin. "This pilot plant will explore ways to reduce the cost of making ethanol, and that will translate into savings at the pump for the customer," said Moseley-Braun.
