750,000 E85 Vehicles to Roll Off Assembly Line in 2000

According to industry sources and the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition, America's automakers will make three-quarters of a million cars, trucks and vans in model year 2000 that can operate with up to 85 percent ethanol blended fuels or unleaded gasoline. If carmakers projections materialize, E85 vehicles would continue their domination of the alternate fuel market. Preliminary E85 flexible fuel production estimates from carmakers for 2000:

Taurus

  • 168,000 Ford Taurus LX and all Tauruses
used in fleets; other E85 Taurus models will
be available at no additional cost

Ford Ranger and Mazda

  • 200,000 Ford Ranger trucks and Mazda B3000

  • 160,000 DaimlerChrysler minivans

  • 175,000 S10 Chevy trucks and GMC Sonoma trucks
